FIFA World Cup: SBS Optus Football Insiders in South Africa

In 2010 South Africa became the centre of the footballing universe as the FIFA World Cup took the country by storm. As the SBS Optus Football Insiders we met plenty of colourful characters and crazy adventures, as well as taking in the odd game of football.

The Game – The Memories (Irish World Cup Song – Italia 90)

The Game by The Memories. a cover of Billy Joels classic “We Didn’t Start The Fire” but with the lyrics memorably altered ahead of Irelands first World Cup in 1990. An array of clips and images compiled by me to match the lyrics, that chronicle the magic moments of Jack Charltons time in charge of the Republic of Ireland side. The first time I heard this song was in 07, uploaded with a video by worm2345. It seems to have been removed so I uploaded it again with my own video, hope you enjoy it! I do not own the music or clips used in this video.

The 22-year-old two-time world champion picked up 214 kilograms in his snatch move in France Sunday night and made compatriot Hossein Rezazadeh’s 213 kilograms a part of history. Salimi lifted 250kg in the clean and jerk and won the gold medal with a total of 464kg. Also Iran’s Sajjad Anoushiravani won the silver medal by lifting 198kg in the snatch and 241kg in the clean and jerk to record a total of 439kg. South Korea’s Sang-Guen Jeon claimed the bronze medal after lifting 192kg in the snatch and 241kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 433kg. In the team rankings, Iran stood third after China and Russia. Iran Thrash Indonesia 4-1 in World Cup Qualifier TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran are through to the final round of Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup after they won their Indonesian hosts 4-1 on Tuesday.
